by linking all these unusual elements, scoutsom explores the relationship between human creativity and the innovative technologies that enable the freedom of improvisation. this is a label that comes to encourage movement – a movement that wants a change through a sonic revolution.

p.e.a.r.l. is launching the fifteenth installment of his falling ethics series with two versions of a serious club destroyer that has been released on the label back in the early days of falling ethics. sorrows has been reflipped to a 2018 version that is sounding modern, large and in sync with the current aesthetics in techno music. while this version can be located on the b-side, on the a-side we find a larger than life cub version (karl o conner & simon shreeve) that will definitely turn some heads over the next few months. reworking classics is not always needed but in this case, it’s a welcome addition completely in harmony with the times.

die beiden ambient/krautrock/avantgarde-meisterwerke -plight & premonition- (1988) und -flux & mutability- (1989) entstanden ende der 1980er im can-studio bei köln, bestehen aus jeweils zwei überlangen tracks und gelten als klassiker ihres genres. an den aufnahmen waren neben sylvian und czukay auch die beiden can-musiker jaki liebezeit (an beiden alben) und michael karoli sowie marcus stockhausen, trompeter und sohn des berühmten komponisten karl-heinz stockhausen, beteiligt (letztere nur an -flux & mutability-). der re-release auf grönland erscheint in chicen doppelformaten mit neuen linernotes des renommierten britischen journalisten david topp. beide alben sind nicht bestandteil der jüngst erschienenen holger czukay-retrospektive -cinema- und seit ihrer original-veröffentlichung damals auf venture/virgin records und limitierten reissues anfang der 1990er in japan und uk nicht mehr erhältlich gewesen.

the album is a collection of wonderful, emotional and very personal songs. written and performed by peter wangel, the lyrics are inspired by multi award winning, temporary norwegian writer karl ove knausgard and deal with very personal subjects from his own life. “the previous releases were about the “lonely” feelings, the feelings that only existed in me, the feelings i wanted to set free for a long time. the new album is about my life as it is right now, about all the thoughts, expectations, worries and the happiness that comes with a new life as a family. this is a very personal album, but i also hope to express something very ordinary and something that most people can relate to.- also musically the album is a big step forward for wangel, the melodies are still subtle, but offer more nuances and colors.

joe claussell joined the mushroom house series! the new york city dj and music originator made one of his rare remixes. for the toy tonics series. claussell is a pioneer. blending african and brazilian rhythms with disco and house since the early 1990ies. inspiring the music world with his labels spiritual life music and ibadan records and with his legendary body & soul parties that he run for 6 years with francois k and danny krivit in nyc. for toy tonics he remixed an obscure afro funk song by german afro - kraut band karl hector & the malcouns and nicolas tounga, singer from burkina faso.

this summer 2017 tom bulwer launches parasol culture, a vinyl only imprint, focusing on quality house and techno, with a tinge of “it’s a london thing”. dutch born tom came to london as a uk garage dj working up his way the ranks of pirate radio stations (freek fm, unknown fm), to producing and working with uk garage legend karl ‘tuff enuff’ brown. this year tom is focusing on tb audio, his analogue mastering studio in east london, and producing music on the deeper side of house and techno as a solo artist. tom has released on labels such as nu faze, !k7 and signatune records. he also regularly writes with long term partner in crime anna wall under their own names and under their moniker casse. the first parasol culture release is the output of tom and anna’s winter months under the same roof and in his studio in hackney wick. 2017 also sees tom start a new venture with dexter kane (murmur, get physical, fear of flying), aptly named, alternate facts, a vinyl only label and free party series, wax and stacks, party over profit, power to the people.

karl meier, ken meier and jon krohn, aka stave, are launching a label called standards & practices.
the three us artists, who share chicago roots, have a pretty straightforward mission in mind for standards & practices: “to provide a platform for releases by both talker and stave, as well as for material by other like-minded artists and collaborators.” talker is the downwards-affiliated duo of karl meier—a longtime techno dj, now based in berlin, who took part in ra’s playing favourites series last year—and krohn, formerly of the experimental rock group male, who’s also been putting out his own brand of abstract, industrialized electronic music as stave for around four years. ken meier, a new york-based graphic designer, partner at common name and dj—and karl’s brother—takes care of art and design for the label.
standards & practices’ opening move is a talker 12-inch, battle standards, the duo’s third full release and first since their 2014 album for downwards. a three-track ep built with material from their new live set and “aimed squarely at the dance floor,” it includes a new version of “my favorite colour is gold,” from 2015’s the immortal eye compilation cd. it’s due out in late july. next will be black hills, a five-track ep from stave that’s expected in september.
along with the soon-to-launch label, the meier brothers recently rebooted their fear of music podcast with some new mixes, including two from karl.

office 04 circles in memories: the record is about johannes * iron curtis* palukas time at karl-marx-straße berlin where he used to live next door to label head baaz and graphic designer chris fladung. a1 track * magnet* is an ecstatic piece of house music holding all elements ics production is esteemed and loved for : heavy, unrelenting kicks, rolling bass lines, shimmering pads, topped with searing hot yet gamelan-like synts and an icing of slightly loose, detuned organ stabs predesting grand emotions on any dance floor. * what happened happened* surely marks up as another proof of curtis fearless takes on house music: distorted field recordings and blurred spoken words, a web of gossamer melodies and subtle clicks and cuts, all cohered by the louche bassline and the reshuffled groove in a true dilla-ish vein. adapting elements to their own agenda, clandestine groove explorers berg turn * what happened* into a true midnight roller: razor-sharp hihitas join forces with a steam-maschine like percussion, whipping relentlessly in-between kick drum and kick drum. berg cools off their take with prancing melody motifs and strung out pads of the original track, though never loosing focus of the * reductions* aim: keep the dancer dancing.
